Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Midwest Morning

I’ve already shared my love of blue in our recent post on Summer Blues, but the comfort I feel around this hue bears repeating. Blue is a traditional and calming color that can be incorporated into any style and space. As I brainstormed and tested colors for our Nell Hill’s paint line, I knew I needed a version of blue that would take my beloved shade to the next level of serenity. This is how I came to find the tone we now call Midwest Morning.

Embracing Color in Your Home

These last few weeks have left me feeling a bit blah. The grey skies and single-digit temperatures have me feeling sluggish and drained, and I’m in need of a change! What better way to add some pep to my step and some energy to my day than with a shot of color? Anyone who follows our blog or has visited our shop knows that we love pattern and color in all rooms great and small. I know not everyone is able to come enjoy the shop right now and I want to bring my winter blues solution right to your doorsteps (or desktops, rather). Though the days may be dreary and cold, that is no reason you or your home should be! This week I am talking tips for embracing color and bringing some much-needed energy to our homes and ourselves.

MC Classic: Add Panache with Pillows

A new year is upon us and that means that the fabulous new fabrics we handpicked at market are finally arriving! With new textiles comes fresh bedding, upholstery, and so many exciting pillows that I feel like a kid in a candy store (or more accurately an accent pillow obsessed person in a home décor shop). I am always switching out my throw pillows in my living spaces and adding so many to my bedroom I am surprised my husband can still make his way under the sheets each night. To this day, whether we are ordering pillows for the shop, ourselves, or our customers, we keep in mind Mary Carol’s three rules of pillow panache…

Nell Hill’s Paint Line: Flint Hills

Painting is one of the simplest (and most effective) ways to transform a room. Paint sets the overall mood of the room, and the stage for the layering of furnishings and accessories. When creating our Nell Hill’s paint line, I wanted to create colors that I would want in my favorite rooms: rooms that are both lovely and lived in, comfortable and friendly, on trend and yet timeless. Our new palette of seventeen colors has endless combinations that are perfect for enhancing a home’s unique style. The first color I would like to highlight is a versatile and enduring hue – Flint Hills.

Fresh Fabrics for A New Fall Season

Last weekend our Autumn accessories were flying off the shelf and it was so much fun chatting with everyone who came in to check them out! I love hearing about your fall home décor plans and talking about this beautiful season. Along the way, I am always surprised by some of the perceived “rules” that seem to pop up surrounding specific times of the year. A common misconception when gearing up for Autumn is that you are limited to a certain color palette in order to be seasonally appropriate. Untrue! While this time of year I do enjoy more spiced hues and muddy tones to match the changes we see outside, there are many ways to bring a more seasonally appropriate approach to your home regardless of color palette. I’ve gathered a few different fabric groupings that range in tone from classic fall feels to crisp autumn evening to show that it’s easy to pivot into a new season with a little textile fun!

Going Mad for Plaid

Have I mentioned how excited I am that it’s “officially” plaid season? I could blame my obsession with plaid on Brandon’s Scottish heritage, or perhaps it’s my background and admiration for sewing, quilting and weaving where I see the true art that goes into creating the intriguing patterns. Regardless, I am a year-round lover of plaid – tartan, gingham, check, houndstooth, tattersall – I will take them all! The autumn and winter months are when this trendy but timeless textile gets the most attention. We have plaid featured all over the shop right now in celebration and I am so excited to show how we incorporate this beautiful pattern into our décor!

Getting WILD with Textiles

I am just going to go ahead and say it- I think animal prints get a bad rap! Glad I got that off my chest. I’ve seen the articles and heard the talk that animal textiles are a décor faux pas (or maybe a faux-paw in this case 😉). It is time to take a walk on the wild side in this weeks blog post and put this falsehood to rest by highlighting some of my favorite animal prints that we use in the shop to make a bold statement with New Traditional design.
